Windows 7 - PSU Failing?

Hey guys,

I got a new graphics card the other day, went from a HD 5850 to a GTX 560ti OC'ed edition.

My PSU was quiet as quiet can be when gaming with the old GPU but now the PSU is making a whining noise, not mega loud but loud enough that you can hear it.

Only happens with gaming.

Games are also stopping and going back to desktop saying the program needs to close or had to close.

The PSU is an Antec truepower New 750 and is only about 3-4 months old.

The recommended PSU for the GTX 560ti is 550 watts so it should be up to the job?

Is it failing suddenly? It's litterally only started happening with the new GPU installed and the noise is definitely coming from the PSU.

Sure sounds like what you are experiencing.

Whining is probably the PSU fan failing. Depending on what else you have in the PC will determine how much power you need.
This CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting will let you see and monitor your volts.

I dont think it's the PSU that is failing especially when it's almost new also newer PSU's from good brands like Antec are designed to control the fan speed according to the Load and the heat levels. GTX 560ti OC'ed Edition might use more power from the PSU that's why when you play any game so you hear the Fan noise little louder than usual. This problem might be related to software rather than hardware. It might be due to jumping from ATI to Nvidia which may have some sort of conflict between there driver files and experiencing crashes to desktop. You may have uninstalled ATI drivers before installing 560Ti but some of the files remains in the OS. Also GPU fans are fully automatic and some of the models makes really loud sound when gaming

The 5850 uses 151Watts (Max TDP) where the standard 560Ti uses 170Watts (Max TDP) considering your's a OC'ed edition so it uses a little more than the standard one.

I did a clean install of windows shortly after putting the card in as I thought that some drivers left from ati may have caused an issue but it didn't change anything.

One thing I will add is that when I put V-Sync on in any game the noise completely disappears so it seems to be directly affected by frame rate in 3D games.
