CPU Fans Socket 939 Hi folks,
Just wanted some opinions on some cpu fans for my socket 939 Athlon X2 5000 cpu. It's running pretty hot just at stand still about 135 deg. F. At 100 percent load can get to 189 deg. F. I need one that going to have some serious cooling any thoughts that could lead me in the right direction would be great..Thanks Seth | My System Specs |

Hi Seth, first you should check the thermal paste on your current cooler, 138° is near the limit for that CPU. The stock cooler for it is fairly efficient so see if the fins are clogged with dead dust bunnies.
Here is the cooler I have on a PhenomII X4: Newegg.com - Enzotech Extreme-X Rev.A 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

Hi Britton I'm using arctic silver but it probably needs to be redone, The cooler is clean and the fan is spinning around 2100 rpms but I'm pretty sure the paste is depleted so after I get some more arctic silver and redo the cpu I guess I go from there. Thanks for the reply and link I'll definitely keep that in mind if the paste doesn't do the trick.. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU I7 Motherboard GA-X58-USB3 Memory 6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system Graphics Card GeForce GTX 580 Sound Card Realtek ALC892 codec 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel Monitor(s) Displays NEC Display Solutions E321 Black 32" Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Keyboard Microsoft Mouse Microsoft PSU XFX Black Edition XPS-850W-BES 850W ATX12V Case Antec Cooling Zalman Hard Drives OCZ Colossus LT Series OCZSSD2-1CLSLT1T 3.5" 1TB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive |

You're welcome. Artic Silver usually won't "wear out" and attches the heat sink very well.
What tasks are you running when the temp goes up?
another thing to look at is your power supply voltage out put, they should be within 5% of rated volts. Ahh, OK, Prime95 will cook your CPU. It puts a big load on it. Are your temps OK otherwise? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

When running all my normal start-up applications it's running at about 118 deg. F. but I had swapped out cpu's and I know I didn't get enough of the arctic silver because I ran out of it, so that job has to be redone so I ordered some more of it. This cpu before use to run at about 90 degrees when I had a good coat of thermal paste on it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU I7 Motherboard GA-X58-USB3 Memory 6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system Graphics Card GeForce GTX 580 Sound Card Realtek ALC892 codec 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel Monitor(s) Displays NEC Display Solutions E321 Black 32" Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Keyboard Microsoft Mouse Microsoft PSU XFX Black Edition XPS-850W-BES 850W ATX12V Case Antec Cooling Zalman Hard Drives OCZ Colossus LT Series OCZSSD2-1CLSLT1T 3.5" 1TB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive |

Ahhhaa. Use non oily fingernail polish remover or rubbing alcohol to clean the heatsink base and the CPU. Wash hans thouroughly afterwards, the paste can be poisonous.
Use a rice grain-size of the AS-5 in the center of the CPU, put the heatsink down and with a bit of pressure, twist it osme to spread it. Then clamp it down, don't take it off to see if it spread out. it does. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts.
