Maybe a shot in the dark, but try booting to safe mode with command prompt, and see if you can run sfc from there? This will have the added benefit of disabling any security software that may be blocking the process.
A Guy
thanks A Guy i ran the sfc /verifyonly cmd and i do have violations (surprised this command worked because sfc wont) i will read the cbs. log tomorrow its late here and i must get some sleep been on this all day and im a bit brain numb will update with any news :)
i just ran sfc in offline mode using cmd from my system repair disc but still got Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service error
re-set CMOS ? please enlighten me what this does and what to expect. don't like messing in the bios. i might just ride this windows 7 out on the machine and get windows 8 when its released this copy of 7 come with the machine its two years old at Christmas i was going to buy a new copy but if 8 is out i will wait.
If it were up to me I would not change BIOS yet. I'm sure Dave has a reason for that advice, I'd like to learn something there but right now I fail to see a connection between a W7 Resource Protection, normally ALWAYS fixed by software settings, and BIOS? Unless you also have HDD issues... but those have not come up, have they?
We'll do some more searching....
at least im not getting blue screens !! ( i will get a new pc soon anyhow im due for a upgrade been working hard! so good to spend some on myself i would like to keep this machine ticking over as it is till then i will still use it though! all the upgrades i paid out for it!)
I've got an idea for two more tries. Both are based on my assumption that something is messed up in your permissions.
1. Create a shortcut (on desktop) with the full path of C:\Windows\System32\sfc.exe and add /scannow in command. Run this shortcut with elevated admin perms.
Probably better:
2. Use this tut: Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable and run the off-line version provided earlier, in a command prompt after logging in as this admin.
