Errm I'd like to second this query. I've already killed my TSST DVD drive trying to update the firmware and now the Sony Blueray drive I just replaced it with is arguing as well!

I am testing this with two proven discs, one being Assassin's Creed and the other is the Far Cry 2 disk (which is fortunately installed otherwise this would be an urgent query).

Any ideas? I'm confused. It rejects both discs stating that there's no disc in the drive.

Okay and just as a final test it's just rejected a film too. Something is mucking me about!!

    HALP!

    Hi guys,
My dvd rom has disappeared! Dvds can no longer be read. Drive buzzs for a couple of seconds then stops working. In device manager under other devices I do not have drivers for a coprocessor or another unknown device. Does this have anything to do with my problem? Also, my laptop that I am inquiring about is now saying I need to consider replacing the battery and the laptop is approximately two years old. Is this simply a case of my laptop being too old?

    unsure of dvd rom manufacturer

You perhaps should have started a new thread for this.

On my laptop (Compaq CD50-105NR), I got the coprocessor warning in Device Manager until I installed the chipset drivers from HP. (nVidia chipset, AMD Athlon CPU.) I never had a problem with the DVD drive, so the chipset drivers may not explain your DVD problem.

Does your DVD drive show up in Device Manager, as working?

I don't know about the battery monitor. I haven't had a problem with that, even though I've been running Win7 betas for months (and now am running the released version).

ok thanks a lot!! i'll get those drivers and see if those fix the cocompressor issue. dvd drive doesn't show up in the device manager. not sure about the battery but not too big of a deal.
    cheers, brettzky

Hi, I'm having issue with Windows 7 DVD, all CDs are working fine but when I insert DVD it doesn't work, Actually, I had this same problem on 2 machines, previously I though it could be a hardware issue, but now I feel that its some kind of driver issue, or issue with Windows 7 updates.
I searched on internet for fix, and found Regedit fix, of upper filter n lower filter delete, but when I checked there aren't those filters in my Laptop.(I checked it The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista here) Well, is there any fix, or it is some kind of virus attack? How to fix it , anyone can help?
