OK to change drive letter?

I have Windows installed on my SSD and have some installed some programs on my other drive which is partitioned. I have already removed the drive letter (D) from the system reserved 100mb partition on the other hard drive (it used to have windows installed on it).

So now my partitions/drive letters read C, E, F, G but I want them to be C, D, E, F.

The programs are installed on on F which I want to rename E, will the appropriate registry changes be made if I change the drive letters using Disk Management?

IT does say "change drive letter and path" so I am thinking it will work but just want to be sure. Thanks.

in 7 you can just get rid of the drive letters. name each drive for what they contain, then go to folder options in control panel and uncheck show drive letters. easier than trying to be sure that all paths updated.

How do I do that please? Right click the drive icon and change eg. "local Disk" to something else?

Can you post a screenshot of your expanded disk management layout so that we can check which is your active partition?

I'm just wondering if there will be any ramifications in changing the drive letter for it.

yea just rightclick the drive and select rename

I have deleted the unused system reserved so it is slightly different than I first described but the same principle applies.



Windows is on C the SSD (not changing that), the program I installed (a game I didn't want taking up space on the SSD) is on F which I want to rename E.

IT's only one program so if it doesn't work it's not a huge issue but I still think it should be OK.

I just don't like having drives that are labelled C, D, F, G, it's not right! lol

BTW, "H" is just Virtual Clone Drive.

then just name them like i suggested. if your concerned about windows be last don't be. you can either name it like 7 which will make it first or do like i did and simply put a space in front of the name.
