Windows 7 - Experience, opinions on IPS monitor

Hi all,

Been thinking about getting a new monitor and just may indulge myself by getting a decent one.

My current monitor is a 25" Hannspree. It was inexpensive, and it shows. Light leaks, contrast changes when I move my head, and a bright spot that appears to be one end of one of the CCFL tubes. I bought it a couple of years ago mainly because it was cheap and large. And also because my 20" Mitsubishi CRT was taking up a good portion of my new desk.

I also have a 15" MacBook Pro (2010) that has the best display I have ever seen on any computer. Excellent viewing angles, great contrast and color, no light leaks. The more I use it, the more I think "why not get an IPS display for my Windows 7 desktop?"

So, does anyone have an IPS monitor or any experience with one?

Any noticeable difference between s-IPS and the less expensive e-IPS?

Will a $460 24" s-IPS perform on par with a $1200 s-IPS? Ok, that may be a stupid question...but still

Does any one brand have an edge over the others?

Anything I haven't mentioned here, please feel free to let me know.

There is no doubt a difference. I used to have 2 of them at work and they were very nice.
When it came to my personal purchase I settled for a 24" Asus that suffers from none of the problems you mention above and only cost me 199 dollars american. ...that's just a standard lcd, and I'm also perfectly happy with it. If I could come up with any complaint about it, it won't lean forward very much, but since I don't sit under my monitor that hasn't really been an issue for me personally.

To be honest it's a matter of funds. They are just sooo much more expensive for the same resolution/size I would personally rather have 2, or in some cases 3 decent monitors than one ips. That's just me though.
It's also one of the highest selling and best rated monitors on new egg.

oh yeah the built in speakers suck too, but does anyone actually use those things?
I've had mine for just over a year now according to my order info on newegg, and it has had no loss of contrast, no fading, and no dead pixels.
Also the 'glossy' refers to the frame, the screen itself is not reflective.

I have an NEC Spectraview. They are the tops for color accuracy and come with calibration hardware and software. You calibrate the color calibration directly in the hardware LUT on the monitor:
