Pparks1, I was just looking at this thread and noticed back in July you really didn't think too highly of SSDs (or were suspicious of them)

How do you like them now? I would have a hard time going back to a "normal" drive now

Just the boot time alone when I'm overclocking is worth the price. I have saved sooooo much time it's not even funny.

Here is a shot of my new SSD same brand and model but running on a P55 board in IDE mode. A little less performance than in AHCI.

That's the whole reason that I got the SSD drive. I didn't want to speculate and guess as to what the overall performance would have been. Fortunately, I felt that $250 for an 80GB drive wasn't too overpriced and I went out and got one. So, now I can speak with personal experience to back it up.

I like some of them, namely the Intel (which I have), the Patriot Torqx, and the OCZ. These are the makes and models which seem to have eliminated most of the problems. I'd say for the most part, these are still just for the elite computer users and people interested in sheer performance. Don't get me wrong, I do love the drive and it is fast...but I don't think the average joe could justify the cost for the performance right now.

I don't notice that much difference from my Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drive in boot times to be honest. Both are very fast. Sure, the SSD is faster....but not enough to solely make the purchase worth it. Where I REALLY notice the difference, is launching a game and getting into the game and back to the desktop when complete. That is so fast now compared to how it was before.

My Intel X25-M has similar performance. The numbers vary a bit from day to day. The pattern of the graph is usually the same--slight dips at the beginning and then a slight reduction for a while just over half way through.

Thought I'd join in since I'm up and running my new G2 X25-M
Not sure why it spiked down at first...

This is what I was looking for when I started this thread. Thanks for the info guys.

    Looking good!

Guy Scharf, I would like to know what causes that drop in bandwidth at the first of the test. Mine do that too.

Baatfam and Guy, are you guys running in AHCI or IDE mode?

AHCI....unless I did something wrong. But that's what I set in the bios before install and I loaded the drivers....

Is there a way to check for sure?

    I am running AHCI.

I don't know what causes the drop at the beginning and have wondered. PerfectDisk shows the beginning is where the data is and the slight drop in the middle is where the MFT is. Perhaps storing data on the SSD results in a very slight performance hit when measured with HD Tune. Could wear levelling be causing this effect?

Thanks for the replies guys, I have been trying to find out what people are running (IDE - ACHI) and what kind of bandwidth they are getting

Not sure about the wear-leveling Guy. These are mostly NEW disks. I don't know what would be causing that. If you go back in this thread most have the same characteristics. Mine certainly do.
