Printer causes freeze at start-up

Windows 7 will not get passed the HP Welcome screen at start-up if my HP OfficeJet L7680 All-in-One is USB-connected. Uninstalling and re-installing the printer driver does not solve the problem. Un-connecting printer and reconnecting it unfreezes the computer. Printer prints but OS freezes up again if scanning. This same printer worked without issues with Windows XP. Does anyone have a fix?

Did you try to update the printer drivers? Outdated drivers could be the problem.

Thanks Frank1, but I've tried that three times. Not a solution.
