It`s perfectly normal. As long as you get the safe removal message your fine.
Thanks for your reply. So you want to say, USB device removed althogh the light is flashing.
Hello Monirul. Welcome to the Forum.
Normally it would work like this:
- You click on the USB icon in the Taskbar
- You click on Eject "Device"
- You get a message that says "Safe to Remove Hardware"
- Then you remove the device
If I read this correctly you say that the USB device - (a thumbdrive?) - is still blinking after you have pulled it out of the computer?
To be clear:
- What type of USB device is it?
- Do you see the "Safe to Remove Hardware" message before you pull the plug?
- Does the device blink after it has been removed from the computer?
Hello TVeblen, thanks for your reply. Actually I am confused. As far I know, when we eject USB device from the USB icon in taskbar or notification area then we will get a confirmation pop up "Safely remove USB device". Generelly, what is heppend here. I know operating system disconnect it from power. But now I want to say when I eject my pendrive (twinmos) by click "eject USB device" from the taskbar than I will get Pop up "Safely remove USB device", that's ok. But problem here it is not disconnect from power. In windows XP I saw when I click "safely remove" than it is eject from computer and it is not flashing, that's ok. But in windows 7, after complete the safely remove by click the eject USB device, I get a confirmation pop up that's ok but it is still blinking and it is connecting to PC not pulled. Generelly what would be should now, it is disconnect from power, but it is don't disconnect.
Actully I am sorry for annoy.
I have just read a few forums regarding this issue and the consensus is that this behavior is "normal" in Windows 7 and Vista.
These people say that as long as you get that "Safe to Remove Hardware" message then Windows is done writing to the drive and it can be removed without danger of losing data.
But the power to the drive stays on. And this seems to be by design. I can't find anything on why this would be beneficial. I suppose it could be in deference to external hard drives and other USB connected devices over pen drives.
It occurs to me that this may be product specific. I use some Crucial brand pen drives and the lights on these only light up when in use moving data. The rest of the time they are dark. Perhaps your brand of pen drive the light stays on. Or perhaps this behavior is specific to the computer hardware we are using.
It does not seem right, but it does seem to be "normal".
Thanks TVeblen for your response. Take care, bye.........
That is correct, if you get "Safe to remove hardware" it will be fine. My pen drives don't do this but an external USB hard drive I use does have the light remain on afterwords.
