Windows 7 - Query re UAC / CPU

Not strictly for this forum but I have a friends machine a custom built desktop with an Intel E4500 Duo core 2GB RAM on an Intel D945GCNL board running Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 to tidy up for her. It is running extremely slowly and I am being blocked at every turn to get this thing going for her.


Now I cannot get this damn machine to change the UAC controls for her to be the admin it constantly defaults admin to her son. I tried all of Brink's suggestions from the Vista forum (including the regedit which didn't show up as the tutorial showed) but no go. It may be a virus or something and also her son has installed two AV suites on it plus multiple other stuff that I personally would not use.


I was wondering if I put in a new drive and install 7 will the CPU support it. I have checked out the Intel site (and Google) but it makes no mention of this model - the mobo does that I do know. As a matter of interest the hard drive seems to be constantly "working" even though when not being "used".


Can someone help me please with this before I go stir crazy.
