No boot after switching HDD Sata order on Mobo

Hi all,

After putting in a second GPU -- which now covers 3 of my Sata ports -- I was forced to switch my drive order around. I was able to boot successfully with 2 of them, but oddly not 3. So I removed my System Reserve drive, setting C: to the active drive, figuring that would clear things up. Then plugged in my 3rd drive into that spot leaving just 2 drives, but windows still does not boot.

I checked boot order in BIOS, but I still get boot error. Windows will only boot when I remove the drive leaving only the OS drive.

I know a reinstall will solve my problems, but I need to avoid that at all costs.

Please forgive me if this is a repost. I tried searching put couldn't find any answers.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Physically remove all your hard drives except the one with windows installed and reboot; lets see what happens.

Hi Kipper,
When all other drives are removed, except the drive with windows, everything boots up with no issues

I'm wondering if any of your other disks is set to active what kind of error message is it saying? "Missing operating system" or what?

It's something along the lines of this:
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media then press any key to continue"

I'm not certain that's exactly the message but it's very close. I can confirm once I get home.

You might be right about the 2nd drive being set to active. I haven't checked that yet. I will check in diskpart later and will confirm!

Ok, so I was able to repair the boot sector via the Windows 7 disk. I assumed I had taken care of that via: BCDBOOT c:\windows /s C:
After repair, computer booted up fine with both drives. I then rebooted and got the same error message.

"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key."

But this time I was able to press a key and boot to windows OK with both disks.
So now my issue is removing this boot error.
Any ideas?

While dealing with another issue, I've been told that I should switch my SATA mode from RAID to AHCI. I do not have a RAID array and don't plan to. Will I still see good speeds using a SATA 3 SSD on a SATA 2 mobo?
I am looking to purchase an SSDD (Newegg.com - Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F90GB3-BK 2.5" 90GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)) and am wondering if I will still see good speeds as my motherboard only has SATA II connections and the drive is SATA III.

Does location/order of Sata devices effect system performance
Back in the IDE days...I believe the items and/or types of IDE devices on either IDE cable/channel would effect system performance. In other words if you have a fast HDD as a master and a CD player as the slave on the dame cable/IDE channel..system and/or drive performance Does the same issue...
