First SSD I'm thinking about getting an SSD for my new build. My budget at the moment is $281. Due to the limited amount of computer stores in Australia, I'd prefer to buy from either PCCG or MSY.
I was thinking about a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD but heard it had encountered various issues over the past couple of months.
Any advice would be appreciated. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64/Windows 8 Consumer Preview x64/Ubuntu 11.04 CPU Intel Pentium Dual Core E6700 3.2GHz Motherboard ASUS P5G41T-M LX Memory Strontium 8192MB DDR3 1333Mhz Graphics Card msi GeForce N560GTX-M2D1GD5 1GB Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays CHIMEI CMV 221D 22" Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 PSU SHAW Viper-1500w Gaming PSU Case Black eMaxx ATX Mini Tower Case Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda LP Green 3.5'' 2TB Internal HDD 5900RPM + WD Elements Desktop 1TB External HDD 7200RPM Internet Speed 100GB @ 4.76Mbps |

I've been using a Vertex 130 120GB drive for a few weeks without any difficulties.
I haven't been watching the OCZ forums. Are people still having problems if the latest firmware for the drive (2.11) is installed? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number homegrown OS Windows 7 Pro X64 SP1 CPU Intel Core I7-3930k Motherboard Asus P9X79 Pro Memory 16 GB Gskill DDR3-2133 Graphics Card eVGA GTX680 Sound Card Creative X-Fi Titanium Monitor(s) Displays As PA246Q Screen Resolution 1920 X 1200 Keyboard cheap Logitech USB Mouse Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer (old optical) USB PSU PCP&C Silencer 750 Crossfire Case Silverstone FT02 Cooling Noctua NH-D14 Hard Drives Corsair Force GT, 120 GB

I'm not sure... check this... AnandTech - The OCZ Vertex 3 Review (120GB)
If I read it correctly, it would depend on what kind of data you push on it. As a system disk only, it is great. for data, specially compressed data as in some movie formats, not so sure. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom build OS Windows 7 64b Ultimate CPU I7-2600 3.40GHz - testing various OC levels.. Lots of issues with the Vertex 3 series. Make sure you visit their support forums and peruse before buying. Caveat emptor. Better off with an Crucial or Intel (or any non sandforce based) SSD IMO. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (GeneO industries)/Model 2 OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU i5 2500k @ 4.5 GHz, 1.256V 120 GFlop (with AVX) Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB (4GBx4) 1600MHz G.skill Ripjaws X 8-8-8-24 Graphics Card Asus Nvidia ENGTS450, 1GB 4030 MHz DDR5 clock, 915 Mhz GPU Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays NEC Spectraview 2490WUXi-SV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard HP Wireless Mouse HP wireless PSU Antec TruePower New 650W Case Fractal Design "Define R3" Cooling CM Hyper 212+ push/pull, 5 120mm, 1 140mm case fans Hard Drives Crucial 128GB M4 (system), 2x WD Caviar 1TB Black internal (data), 1x Seagate 750G Barracuda Internal (backups), 1x WD Blue 6Gb/s 320GB Internal, 1x Corsair F40 SSD for cache, 1x 2TB eSata WD20EARS Green, 2x 500GB Seagate external USB, 1x 350GB exte Internet Speed 25.7 Mb/s down, 4.5 Mb/s up Other Info USB 3.0 x4 , SATA III x4, eSATA x3, SATA II x4, USB 2.0 x8. 2 Samsung DVD R/W drives.

I have been using 2 Vertex 3 120Gb for 2 months. I got freezing/hangs at random with firmware 2.08. Upgrading to 2.11 with no issues. Performance is as expected.
You can upgrade firmware on OS installed drive. OCZ forums has a sticky on how to to do it.
If not the Vertex, go for a Sandforce based controller.
My only regret with the Vertex 3 is that I should have waited a couple months for the Max IOPS version.
Good luck with your purchase. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number N/A OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel i7 2600K@4.6Ghz Motherboard Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Memory G Skill DDR3 12800 DDR3 RipJaws 16Gb Graphics Card EVGA GTX480 Tri SLI Sound Card SoundBlaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro Monitor(s) Displays 3 * Dell U2711 Screen Resolution 7680x1440 Keyboard Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Mouse Logitech G1 Optical PSU Silverstone ST1500 Case Corsair Obsidian 800D Cooling Koolance CPU-360 : Koolance VID-480 : Koolance 360x3 + 120x1 Hard Drives 2 * OCZ Vertex 3 120Gb
