PC/ TV compatability issue?

Apologies in advance if I don't use technical jargon, it's lost on me,

having recently purchased a packard bell imedia d2525 i attempted to use it through my television which i have always been able to do with my previous cpu. I n all the time i've had it i'm yet to get it even to the desktop, the system will start and then result in a black screen.

In store they have started it up on a monitor and believe it is an issue with my tv despite using it right now with my existing PC.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this

kind regards

wayne

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums, Wayne.

You need to forget about the TV issue for now and concentrate for now on why you can't get to the desktop.

If the store has been able to hook it up to a different monitor, that suggests to me that your monitor may be the problem.

Check that the cable between the monitor and computer is secure and that the monitor is switched on (don't laugh, I've seen it happen! )

Is there more than one DVI socket on the graphics card? If so, have you tried both of them?

Do you have another monitor you can try? Did your monitor come with the computer? If so, you need to pressure your reseller for a replacement.

thanks for your prompt response

the fact it could be my monitor puzzles me as i'm currently using it with my older PC?

The graphics card only has one DVI socket and all cables are secure and monitor on. I do get a start-up screeen but then the screen goes blank.

unfortunately i don't have access to another monitor at this moment in time

You're welcome.

As you've recently purchased this computer, I'd be inclined to take the computer AND the monitor back to get it checked out while it's under warranty.

That said, if the store say they've had the computer working with one of their monitors, and you say your monitor works on your pld PC, you need to:

1) Check for bent pins at both ends of your DVI cable.
2) Try another cable if you have one.

I've got a picture in my head of what is going on here but I'm not sure if it is correct. Could you clarify some things for us?

Do you have a standard computer monitor AND a TV? Or are you just using the TV as your monitor?

The old PC is and was connected to this TV monitor and it works? What operating system is on that one? Does it use a DVI to DVI cable, or a DVI to HDMI cable?

And this new system will not work when it is connected to your (I assume) TV monitor, but in the store it will work when they connect it to one of their standard computer monitors?

Did you check in the bios settings that the video card is set as the default graphics device? Does the system have a video port(s) in the IO area as well as video ports on the video card? See picture, which ports are you connecting to?
