Problem with Floppy Drive

I just did a clean install of Windows 7

When i boot the system up, i now get this message

"Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure F1 to continue"

Under my Computer it now lists that i have Two Floppy drives, A and B

I only have one drive, an external USB drive, made by Memorex

The drive A somehow Windows thinks i have, but there is none.

The drive B is reading as my floppy drive (which i want to change to drive A)

Floppy drives are not showing up under the Disk Management, in order to try and change the drive letter paths.

I have a Dell Insprion 530s, Windows 7 Home Premium.

Here is something I found on another site:

Quote:
The error is telling you that your "floppy" drive is not being seen at boot.

I will assume that most of you don't have a floppy drive. So, you need to restart the system and boot in the the BIOS setup screen. Turn off the floppy disk in startup and check that your hard drive is seen correctly. This most commonly happens when the motherboard battery is removed, or has died. Or when a reset was done within the setup BIOS screen.

I would also check to see when the floppy is booting up during the boot order of your drives. It should be HDD first then a cd/dvd drive and then the floppy and btw windows 7 doesn't like floppy drives I disabled mine and use usb bootable hdd sticks for replacement.

OK i went into the BIOS and turned off the Floppy drive (drive A)

The System boots without any interuption

Now under My Computer it lists only one drive, labled Drive B

Now, how do i change this drive back to the letter A? Remmeber that i am somehow not seeing this drive under the Disk Management in order to try and change the drive letter path.

Also, is is possible that my Battery on my Mobo might need replacement? I have had the system for 3 1/2 years

I think i just solved the problem.
I tried and plugged the drive into a different USB port. It now comes up at Drive A
Anyone know why as to Windows wants to label this drive as Drive B in a particular USB port?

I also have a floppy drive (silly ain't it?) and it doesn't show in Disk Management either, but it works. Try Control Panel|Folder Options|view tab and set it as shown below.

this may allow the A drive to show.

EDIT: Windows Seven seems to handle drive letter assignment haphazardly. It is a quirk of the OS.
