I've been struggling to import photos from my Olympus camera on Windows 7 - regardless of control panel hardware & sound setting changes I made, I was unable to get Windows 7 to recognise the camera and automatically import the photos. Windows 7 saw the camera as a removeable disc, so I could manually copy and paste photos, but that's a pain. There's a similar and much earlier post on this site [2010], but that didn't have a solution I wanted to accept i.e. to use a card reader]. I couldn't find a solution on the Olympus or Microsoft support web pages, and google didn't find much else.
However, I eventually stumbled across a solution which works for me: attach the Olympus camera to Windows 7 and follow the advice in the Olympus manual for connecting to an Apple Mac!! Specifically, that means:
- attach the camera to a Windows 7 USB port
- the camera should show the "PC" option on its LCD screen
- DON'T select PC mode - INSTEAD scroll right
- you should now see 2 options: STORAGE and MPT
- scroll down to MPT
- then select OK
- Windows 7 should now see the camera and start trying to import photos
