Hard drive not talking to me

Windows laptop in a constant start up loop, see the logo and then restart. Removed the hard drive. Connected it to 2 different machines via USB and even thought it appears to install as a drive letter some times, will not allow me to even list the directory. I get intermittent i/o error's. Will not allow format. I think its TOAST
So before I file 13 it, appreciate any last ditch attempt suggestions to revive it. Its a Hatachi HTS72201K, 100gb Tx

Might be missing the point. Drive does not show up in disk manager, does not create a drive letter, I cannot access the disk. So how can I run a test on it?

Not at all. did you notice the .iso on that link.

Thid file from hitachid is burned to a cd and then you boot from the cd.

What is a "Thid" file and "hitachid"?? Does your machine have a spell checker on it, you should learn how to use it.

As I said before "Drive does not show up in disk manager, does not create a drive letter, I cannot access the disk. So how can I run a test on it? "

But just for the heck of it, downloaded the file, booted from the CD, Guess What?? The HDD was not recognized, no surprise to me. How can you test it Grasshopper, if it is not recognized?

Sometimes a Boot CD will recognize what you are trying to test even though Windows doesn't.
That could have been mentioned to you.
Boot CD's usually load to RAM-no Windows needed- so testing works many times.

I'm not an HD expert but seems like you are right it is TOAST!
The HD's on board control circuitry has something fried maybe???

No need to be rude to those trying to help.

First, make sure your bios are set back to IDE mode if in AHCI ATM.

Has the drive gave you any odd noises at anytime? The "click of death"?

If so, you may be able to salvage some DATA or get a test to run still.
Try deep freezing the drive (Yes, I mean remove it and put it in the freezer) for a bit.
Re-connect it and then try the tool and/or salvage as much from it as you can. This can help get it working temporarily in some circumstances.

The HDD with the problem was an upgrade (60gb to 100GB), so I put the 60GB back in the laptop and it ran normal. It had 58 updates to do before I returned it to the grand daughters. Just wanted to make sure it was not the laptop or associated hardware problem. Good idea on the freeze test, its in cool down now. Ran the serial number at the Hitachi site, it was not recognized, said to return it to the seller. Must have been one of those (bulk) that the seller is supposed to take care of warranty issues and not the manufacturer. Yep, the seller is out of business. No "clicks of death" that I could hear. So getting the peanut butter and jelly ready for the Toast if the freeze test turns out bad.
