Monitor sleep mode? When Windows 7 puts my PC into the sleep mode & my Acer LCD monitor goes black, is the monitor actually powering down the lamps or is the PC just not sending it a signal to display?

Monitors go into a power savings mode when they detect a loss of signal. The PC drops the video signal in sleep mode and the monitor goes into power savings mode. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (GeneO industries)/Model 2 OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU i5 2500k @ 4.5 GHz, 1.256V 120 GFlop (with AVX) Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB (4GBx4) 1600MHz G.skill Ripjaws X 8-8-8-24 Graphics Card Asus Nvidia ENGTS450, 1GB 4030 MHz DDR5 clock, 915 Mhz GPU Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays NEC Spectraview 2490WUXi-SV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard HP Wireless Mouse HP wireless PSU Antec TruePower New 650W Case Fractal Design "Define R3" Cooling CM Hyper 212+ push/pull, 5 120mm, 1 140mm case fans Hard Drives Crucial 128GB M4 (system), 2x WD Caviar 1TB Black internal (data), 1x Seagate 750G Barracuda Internal (backups), 1x WD Blue 6Gb/s 320GB Internal, 1x Corsair F40 SSD for cache, 1x 2TB eSata WD20EARS Green, 2x 500GB Seagate external USB, 1x 350GB exte Internet Speed 25.7 Mb/s down, 4.5 Mb/s up Other Info USB 3.0 x4 , SATA III x4, eSATA x3, SATA II x4, USB 2.0 x8. 2 Samsung DVD R/W drives.

But what actually happens to the monitor in sleep or power saving mode?
Do the lamps actually shut off?
IOW if I go out shopping for an hour or two, is there any advantage in my turning off the monitor? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.00 GHz Motherboard Foxconn Memory 4.00 GB |

Hello Mike99, yes the lamps shut off in sleep mode. The monitor in in power saving mode so there is still a minute amount of power to it. This helps bring your display up more quickly when you wake the computer.
Turning the monitor off will save electricity, but maybe 7¢ a year. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Brittechnologies II OS Windows 7 Ultimate X86 SP1 CPU i5-2550K differing speeds depending on the day Motherboard ASUS P8X68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz, 4X4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans @1300 RPM Hard Drives TBA Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Other Info 5 fans, LG Bluray/R/RE, ASUS DVD/R/RW OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.00 GHz Motherboard Foxconn Memory 4.00 GB |
