    First LED monitor...general appearance question

This seems like the most logical forum for my question, so....

I picked up my first LED/LCD monitor (previously LCD only). It's a 24" 1080p LG and I have messed with all the settings trying to get the darks darker, to no avail. My question then becomes, since I have never even used a LED monitor/TV before, is it normal for the blacks to be almost gray? It wasn't exactly "cheap" so I am assuming it's not an issue with it generally being a crappy monitor...

No, you have a setting wrong, probably the contrast too low and the brightness up.
Normally you just lower the brightness on a LCD/LED monitor and then adjust contrast after the brightness.
We have 4 LED monitors here and they all display nice deep blacks. A Samsung 23", Dell 24", HP 23" and a Viewsonic 21.5".

When you refer to "all the settings" do you mean just the menu settings on the LG monitor? Have you tried adjusting via the NVIDIA Control Panel as well?

My LG LED 23"'s came with crazy bright settings. Also what are you using to connect it HDMI, Display port, Mini D. or DVI? I set my pair of LG's up with HDMI and Display port and I've been very pleased. I could tell you my settings but really every room, GPU and eye are different so what's working for me could be horrible for you. Good luck and keep fooling around cause the perfect setting is there.

Thanks for the responses...Clearly I need to work on the settings a little more. Not sure how much I can do with the NVIDIA control panel.

I have the brightness turned all the way down.

Yes, I am hooked up via HDMI.

I'm radeon 5770 but my LG settings are:

    Brightness 47
    Contrast 46
    Sharpness 6
    Color Temp - Preset - 6500
    Gamma 0

    Just FYI

You can do a lot with the NVIDIA Control Panel. Be sure to tick "Use NVIDIA Settings". I don't use the Windows "Calibrate Display". I didn't care for the results I got when I tried it. Of course my monitor is not the same as yours - it's an HP w2408h LCD.
