fax from my computer using Win 7 scan and fax Hello again,
Is it possible to plug my fax machine (15 years old ) into my computer. I wondered if I plugged it into my power bar that has a phone line input and a modem input. Then I could fax from my computer using Win 7 scan and fax built in program.
I am dreaming or is this possible ?
Thanks in advance.
Razz.

Dreaming... Im afraid!
First off 15 years is ages in technical terms... no way would Windows 7 have drivers for something that ancient! Secondly, it sounds like this is a dedicated fax machine that was never meant to interface with a PC... so a definite NO WAY! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Homebrew PC - "Alpha_Dawg" OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Steve Ballmer Signature Edition CPU Intel Core 2 Quad - Q9550 - 2.83GHz stock - OC'd to 3.6GHz Motherboard Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Memory 4GB DDR2 800MHz (PC6400) OCZ Reaper Graphics Card Nvidia GE Force 8800 GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar DX Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard MS Natural Wireless KB Mouse MS Wireless Mouse PSU PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Case Gigabyte 3D Aurora Cooling Case is Air - 5ea. 120mm fans (mix of Arctic and Xigmatec) Hard Drives WD Caviar Black 750GB - 7200RPM - 32MB cache

OK, Thanks for clearing that up.
now could you suggest what I would have to purchase to make my HP Win 7
8 gig Dual core able to send and receive faxes. I do not fax too often. I do have a HP PSC 750 that works great.
Thanks again

Since you have a phone/fax line, and you have a multi-funtion printer you are good thanks to Windows 7's built in fax and scan software.
just plug in a phone line from wall to your PC's modem (if no modem in PC, then thats all you need to buy). TO find out more about Windows 7 fax and scan, click start and type fax into the search bar at the bottom... then click on Fax and Scan from the list. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Homebrew PC - "Alpha_Dawg" OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Steve Ballmer Signature Edition CPU Intel Core 2 Quad - Q9550 - 2.83GHz stock - OC'd to 3.6GHz Motherboard Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Memory 4GB DDR2 800MHz (PC6400) OCZ Reaper Graphics Card Nvidia GE Force 8800 GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar DX Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard MS Natural Wireless KB Mouse MS Wireless Mouse PSU PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Case Gigabyte 3D Aurora Cooling Case is Air - 5ea. 120mm fans (mix of Arctic and Xigmatec) Hard Drives WD Caviar Black 750GB - 7200RPM - 32MB cache

Just look on the back of your computer for a phone jack, if you have a phone jack(s) then you have a fax/modem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HAL-9000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Intel i7 2600K @ 4.44Ghz Motherboard Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1 Memory 16GB DDR3 1333 Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card XFX HD5850 1GB EyeFinity Sound Card Logitech G35 & Sennheiser PC135 & VIA HD Monitor(s) Displays 23" HP 2310e, 23" Samsung B2230, 21.5" Viewsonic Screen Resolution 5760x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 and G13 Mouse Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse PSU Antec True Power New 650watt Case Cooler Master HAF-932 Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler, 3x 230mm Fans, 2x120mm Fan Hard Drives 16TB of Storage

Razz. Maybe there's still a chance that you CAN do it. I've got an old (10 years old, or thereabouts) HP printer/copier/scanner that is alive and kicking, and plugged right into my laptop. Granted, that particular computer is running Vista --- but check out all the options before you definitely rule out the possibility of utilizing your old fax machine. The question is, does your fax have a USB port???? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion dv5t (generation 1) OS Vista 64 bit and 32 bit (SP2) CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz Memory 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Graphics Card 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescre Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Built-in HP Mouse Built in - Synaptics TouchPad V6.5 on PS/2 Port Hard Drives 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Internet Speed Max Other Info ~ Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card w/Bluetooth ~ Blu-Ray ROM DVD+/-R/RW ~ Integ. A "15 year old" fax machine, if it has any PC interface probably is not USB. A new inexpensive fax machine can be bought for $30 HERE That would be the better way to go for an "occasional" fax. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7, 64 bit Professional. Thanks everyone,
I have a phone jack in the back of my computer ! So If I plug a phone line into it from the wall is that all I have to do? do I still give my phone number to receive faxes on my old machine ??
EDIT :
I was wrong it is labeled 1392 and my phone line won't fit in it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number hp pavilion dv9700 OS windows 7 ultimate was Vista home premium Motherboard Quanta 30 d1 Memory 3072 MBs Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M Screen Resolution 1140 x 900 PSU AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2000 Mhz |

It is still pretty common to have an ethernet port and a phone line port on a computer. If yours does not have one I will be surprised. If it does, your computer would basically replace your fax machine.
