Touchpad and mouse do left click without button being pressed

    I have windows 7 and a dell inspiron 1545.

When using both my mouse and my touch pad the cursor does a left click without a button being pressed approximately every five seconds.

I have downloaded some drivers from dell but this did not solve the problem.

The computer originally ran window's vista.

    Thanks guys!!!

Do you want to use the mouse and the touch pad at the same time?
If not there is normally a hotkey (FN + the touchpad icon) to disable the touchpad when using the mouse.

No not at the same time. I meant when I have the mouse plugged in I have this problem. Even when I take the mouse out and use the touch pad the problem remains.

This problem is persisting and it is making it very difficult to operate my computer. When the left mouse button clicks automatically every few seconds it can be annoying.

Turn the touch pad off and see if the problem goes away.

Hey guys, the problem still remains that the computer keeps "left clicking" on things without any button being pressed. It is not a virus because the problem has been here since I installed windows 7.

Any help would be great because it is really annoying.

Did you try disabling (turning off) the touch pad?

Turning of the tap and click setting for the touch pad fixed this problem (I think)

I finally found a solution to the infamous problem of not being able to disable the Inspiron's touch pad after I upgraded from Vista to Win7 32bit.

I had to install an older touchpad driver to make this work. The driver is Dell R165804, this driver is labeled "Dell Touchpad Driver for XP/2K and Vista 32".

When I installed it in my Inspiron 1545 it added the Dell Touchpad tab to my mouse settings under the control panel. Then I opened the control panel, clicked "mouse", under the Touch Pad tab click on the picture of the touch pad. I was then able to click "Device Select" and check the box that says "Disable Touchpad when external USB device is present".

Now when the USB mouse is attached the touchpad is disabled and I don't have my cursor jumping around while typing due to my fat thumbs touching the mouse pad.

Hope this helps someone else out there!
