Welcome to Seven Forums captzu777. Does the drive show up in Computer?
I searched Google for Pavilion dv6000 but the driver page did not list Windows 7 drivers. You might uninstall it again and reboot and see if Windows 7 has a generic built-in driver.

Could you tell me whether this issue began immediately after installing Windows 7, or did it begin after installing all the updates?

Also, was this a clean install or an upgrade install? Upgrade over XP or Vista?

And you installed Windows 7 with the DVD?

A few things to check/try:

  • Check Windows Update and look in the Optional Updates and see if you are offered a CDROM driver.
  • Go to Device Manager, select the DVD drive, and Remove/Uninstall it. Then reboot.
  • Run System File Checker. SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Post back with your results.
