Play/Pause button does not work on MS Wireless Keyboard 2000

What can I do here?

If I have the software uninstalled, I can get the button to work, but now the Mail button goes to Outlook!

However, if I have it installed, the play button will NOT work, sometimes causing Explorer to crash.

I'm not paying MS $35 to get this fixed! Greedy savages, they have enough $$!

I'd be willing to edit the registry, but I cannot find the mention of the play button anywhere.

Things I've done so far: uninstall, reinstall software (Intellipoint AND Intellitype Pro 8.2) and removed a bunch of instances of Intellitype from the registry (I did not remove all of them as there were a lot of references). Also, I think trying to remove the driver references caused my computer to crash.

The Play button only works with CD/DVD or media center/media player, not IE or youtube... but you do need the MS keyboard sw installed for it to do so...

Let me clarify: the button DOES work when the software is uninstalled, and it DOESN'T when the software is installed.

I'm testing it with iTunes.
