External HDD don't remember drive latter and path

Hi everyone i have recently purchased a toshiba 500 GB external HDD. This drive doesn't seem to remember the drive latter assigned to it. I have to manually assign the drive latter everytime i plug in the drive in disk management. Its not a big issue but a bit irritating what should i do?

    With regards

Click on type Disk Management, Click on "Create and format hard disc partitions". right click on your external drive and "select Change drive letter and paths" click on Change and choose the drive letter that you want to use, click on OK, accept the warning, close all windows and you are done.

Try using a letter farther down the line to avoid conflicts with other devices

Thanks what i did wrong previously was after selecting change drive letter and path i clicked add not change. This may be the reason for my drive to keep forgeting the drive letter. I will monitor for some days if some problem arises i will report back.

    Thanks

Just as a suggestion. With an external hars drive I usually give a letter high in the alphabet so windows will likely not use that letter for something else. I have several externals. I always give them drive letters such as Y, X,W or something like that. Doing that I have never had a problem with windows recognizing the drive and same drive letter.
