Lexmark x4550 wifi printer, Starter 7 - install problems

I´ve tried numerous times to install the Lexmark x4550 wifi printer - each time it fails ' reporting unable to create the printer object (?).

The only drivers on the disk seem to be for xp and 2k .... strange. This is despite the install package is labelled for win7.

Previously, on 7 Ultimate the installation worked without issues.

Anyone got any solution for this problem?

    Unplug the printer!
Make sure you have all of the previous installation(s) removed from the problem machine, and then start over.

Uninstall in SafeMode and use the Built-in-Adminstrator Account
Then use the free version of: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems to make sure it is all gone!
Be sure to reboot when asked to!

Do not plug the printer in until asked to.

You can use this link to find the latest Lexmark drivers for 7:

I had an x4580, and that is what I had to do.

    Okay.

This is definitely a Windows 7 Starter problem.

I have just successfully installed the printer on a PC running Win 7 Ultimate.

This suggests Starter 7 is even more crippled than even I suspected!

I´ve also encountered problems remaining logged in to various forums - each time I reload the forum I´m forced to login in again - this is sticky in Ultimate.

Time to reformat he whole disk and install a proper working version of Win 7 and not this *******ised Starter rubbish?

    If I understand correctly.

You did get it installed on 7Ult, but it will not on the 7starter so you are going to clean install 7Ult on the machine that has 7starter, and then install the printer?

That´s what I´m planning to do. I´ve spent houirs trying with Starter 7 - it installed in less than 1 minute on Ultimate!

What a load of rubbish M$ is pushing with this stupid Starter crap - if I hadn´t had another PC to try the install
I´d have spent days trying to fix the problem, without success.

I have to ask....Are you dealing with all 32bit or a mix of 32 and 64bit?

Lets say starter was 32, and you tried to install the 64bit?

    Solved

    SOLVED!

    The solution is:

You must use the driver program for your Windows 7 language-locale setting!

I have Spanish Win 7 and you cannot install the English language version of the driver.
I successfully installed using the Spanish version.

    Bizarre ... but true.

Not really bizarre when you think about it.

When a program goes to install it checks several areas of the OS it is being installed on.

    They include:
Common operations performed during software installations include creation or modification of:

The Registry, Configuration, and Environment could have all been involved when you tried to install the printer program, and the installer found that the program was incompatible because the Region and Language did not match your machine's settings.

I am glad that you were able to solve your situation, and I for one will remember it!
