ok , im not sure what else to do ,you have the correct driver for your computer ,
try this ,go to devices and printers in the start menu, then look for rf reciever or similar then right click it and select properties, choose the hardware tab and it will show you the reciever name and whether it is working properly, there is also a troubleshoot option when you right click the rf reciever, try a trouble shoot.
also if it says it is working then it could be that you need to change the battery on the remote or it could be that it is faulty and not a pc issue.

    remote help

This may help fix the problem,

    1) You may need to buy a new battery for the remote if it is used.
    2) Install this application, IrRC-Lite-Setup.

It may give you a driver error, just click ok and try your remote.
I haven't figured out the driver error yet.

I realize this is an old thread, but it is just about the most recent and near the top of the Google search results...

Has ANYONE gotten their remote to work properly in Windows 7 ?

I'm just curious, as I've tried pretty much EVERYTHING and haven't gotten it to work. Other WMC remotes work perfectly, the IR receiver works PERFECTLY with all other "universal" Windows Media Center remotes that I've tried, but the very convenient little remote that HP sells that fits in the PCMCIA slot of my laptop DOES NOT WORK.

I've tried it with an outboard HP IR receiver connected to another computer, and while it clearly receives the signal, it doesn't trigger anything. The outboard HP IR receiver also works flawlessly with ALL universal MC remotes, but won't produce any response when I try my little remote.

I've bought a new battery, it tests at the same voltage as the one I replaced, btw, both OVER what they're rated at. I find it difficult to believe it has anything to do with the physical aspects of the remote.

What it SEEMS like is that HP, unwisely, chose to use a non standard set of IR codes for this extremely conveniently shaped little remote, and that it is hit or miss if one gets the correct driver to interpret these unique codes properly.

Does that make sense to anyone ?

Does anyone know for sure what driver is the correct one ?

I've tried several drivers, the last one I force installed gave me great little BSOD's, I had to restore to get it fixed...
