    Child Device Instance Removal


    Hi, I am trying for the life of me to make my "Screen Resolution" dialog not recognize a specific display. When I go to the device manager and go to the properties of my Display adapter, its children are enumerated as:

    DISPLAY\ACRAD51\...
    DISPLAY\MS_0003\...
    DISPLAY\ACR0050\...

    The problem is that the 2nd of these (MS_0003) is improperly detected as a valid display. Is there any way for me to remove this from the list of Children and, moreover, make it so my operating system does not see this device?

    You could try to right click the device and select Disable , this will stop it from functioning and remove it from your computer or you might want to try and uninstall it then Restart to see if if it comes back or not

    I actually have tried that. When I disable the device, it seems to only disable the monitor that was "installed" for the display port. I have tried setting a group policy to prevent the installation of any device matching its GUID or Device name and then uninstalling it... this makes the "Default Flat Panel Display" disappear, but is then replaced with "Mobile PC Display".
    The root cause is that I have a graphics card that was designed for laptops, so there is an LVDS signal being detected that thinks there is a laptop monitor. I just need to find any way to break this signal (can't do a BIOS revision, unfortunately) from being detected as a monitor/display. I figured that if I could remove the instance of the display from the list of "Children" of the display adapter then it might not be able to find it.
