Lite-On eSAU108 External DVD Burner not detected by windows 7 help plz

    Gidday

My names Lou am fairly new to the forum and have a totally frustrating situation thats driving me insane! I have 2 versions of windows; 7 Home Premium and Ultimate ...both are 64 Bit.

I have a Lite-On eSAU108 Black Slim External DVD Burner which works flawlessly on my laptop running windows Ultimate 64Bit. I just built myself a new system and wanted to use my external dvd burner rather than an internal drive

When i plug the burner into my rear usb 2.0 ports on my home premium version of windows 7 i have installed on my desktop it wont even detect the eSAU108 USB burner!

Can anyone help me with this problem? My initial thought is that I have a driver issue. Im fully updated with all my hardware except the motherboard BIOS and windows 7 home premium is fully updated.

Any help would be truely appreciated

    Regards Lou

Hello lou2u. Welcome to the forum.

If you are plugging the drive into the USB ports on the desktop's case, then try plugging it into one of the USB ports in the rear - the ones that are connected directly to the motherboard.
This test is to see if the device is getting proper power. It is a common problem for some case USB ports to be under powered.

If that does not work then check:

    • Go to Devices & Printers
    • Right click on your Computer > Choose: "Device Installation Settings"
    • Check your settings.

If you do not want Windows to update drivers automatically then you could try the setting "Install driver software from Window Update if it is not found on my computer" temporarily - just to test and see if there is a driver issue for that external drive.

Let us know what you find.

Hey TVeblen thx so much for the reply !

You were spot on re: usb ports being underpowered. Plugged the drives twin USB jacks into the back of the rig as u suggested n just like magic it started working flawlessly as per with laptop!

Celebrations followed and my son spent the rest of the evening playing a fresh install of Crysis!!

    CHEERS!

    Regards Lou )))))))))))

    Great!

Care to share the brand and model of computer case? It could help others.

An additional note: I had an Antec Sonata I case years ago with a similar problem. It was past warranty but I complained to Antec anyway. No questions asked, they send me a replacement case header with an upgraded motherboard connection that solved the problem.

    Can't hurt to ask.
