Short freezes during backup with new SSD

I recently put a 256GB WD SSD in my machine to compliment a smaller, but faster Patriot 6Gb SSD for HD intensive applications.

Unfortunately, since I installed this drive, whenever Windows Backup runs (once a week) computer will freeze for a few seconds (5-7 at most) every 1 or 2 minutes and then keep working normally Nothing else causes these freezes. I can copy large and small files to/from the SSD without any problems. Windows and apps loads very quickly and WD software confirms the drive is OK.

Is there a specific tweak that I need to do for the WD SSD? I thought they used the most conservative controller for this drive that should make this SSD appear as a regular HD to the OS.

I really hate interrupting the backup, but the computer becomes completely unusable while it runs so I'd really like to solve this ASAP. Any suggestions welcome.

Just in case model numbers help:
The SSD is Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue SSC-D0256SC-2100
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

Thanks.

First two thoughts that come to mind are
1 - power management or antivirus stepping on the file transfers.
2 - Motherboard bios needs updating.

1. No power management - this is an always on desktop. I'm using MSE on all machines and this one only started having problems after adding the SSD.
2. Motherboard already updated with the latest BIOS.

I'm really leaning towards something I need to tweak specifically for this SSD, but I can't figure it out.

Well the first thing I did when I saw your original post was look into possible firmware updates for that ssd, but I did not find any.

I tried stressing this drive to see if I can reproduce the freezes in any other way. I ran WinDirStat on the drive and it worked without freezing the computer. I then also ran Crystal Disk Mark without any issues as well. Then I ran them together without any problems.

Windows Backup should simply be reading the data from the drive like any other program so I'm not sure why stressing the disk with other programs doesn't produce the same issues. What's special about Windows Backup?

You didn't mention what you're backing up the SSD to...maybe that'll give us a hint.

are we absolutely certain it's the drive stressing and not the cpu or a process?

I'm certain it's not CPU because usage stays very low during the backup. I don't see any processes spiking either.

I'm backing up the SSD to a shared directory over gigabit LAN, but I don't think that's an issue since problem only came up after installing this WD SSD and none of the other variables changed.
