Windows 7: Canon G3 in Windows 7

On page 272 of the camera's user manual there is a mention of PTP under Communication Settings, but I couldn't find out how to access it from any of the menus. After Googling around I found this link that talks about Win 7, PTP and your camera.

Also, a video at this link shows how to set PTP on some Nikon cameras (under USB settings), maybe it will lead you in the right direction?

Good luck!

Simple Solution

WiFi Ed - thanks. Canon says that the PTP selection works with some of their older cameras, but that the newer models select automatically, ie, no way to manually select. The solution turned out to be digustingly simple, but without a clear explanation. When I plugged the USB cable into a rear mounted USB port, rather than a convenient front mounted port, Win 7 recognized the camera and CameraWindow loaded just fine and I downloaded my photos without problem (other than one of the photos I downloaded mysteriously ended up part of the "nature" screen saver rotation in Win 7). The only explanation for the change in port having an effect is that the rear mounted USB port is part of the motherboard, and may have a better connection and be a better power source than the front mounted USB port, which is connected via a cable to an interior USB connection on the motherboard. It should not matter, but it did.

Glad to hear you finally got it to work! Good thing you tried a rear port, I wouldn't have thought of that.

windows 7 Pro 64 bit

I have the Canon powershot A3300.
There is no Communication field on any of the menus.
I am having problems with the Camera window issuing a message:
"canon utilities camera window dc has stopped working".
I am using the front port, will try a rear port. Doesn't work on a rear port either.
Running Windows 7 Pro. On other puter Windows XP Pro it works
fine on a front port.
This problem has been around for years. Why doesn't Canon fix it?
