    The dreaded Elan smart pad

    Hello all,
is there a way I can PERMENANTELY disable the smart pad?
Every time I boot up the little darling is back up and working, I have to uninstall then re boot to stop it every single time I use the lap top.
I have downloaded the latest driver, but it makes no difference. The fn9 button does not work at any time either so I do not have that option.
Thank you in advance for a miracle cure
    Sandy :O)

Do you gain any extra controls for this smart pad? Perhaps under Control Panel > Mouse? Usually if your touchpad sports extra software, it will be controllable through there.

Also, one suggestion I found on Microsoft's support site was to check the box to "Turn off touchpad when USB mouse is installed." I wonder if it would disable the touchpad, or just the smart pad features?

Yet another suggestion I have is to download & install Ccleaner. Under Tools > Startup, you can control what runs at startup. Some things, if disabled or deleted there, will not start at all, unless you specifically go and start their program of course.

    Good luck. =)

Thank you for your suggestions, but I have tried everything. The only thing that works is every time I start up I have to download the latest driver, stop device, re boot then for that session the touch pad does not operate, but I am having to do this every single time I use the lap top, talk about drive you bananas :O)

    Disabling Elan Smart Pad

Miranova: FYI, checking the "disable if USB mouse is plugged in" box has no effect. Every time my Samsung laptop reboots, the so-called Smart Pad is re-enabled. VERY frustrating, as I never ever use it. Do you know if it's safe to uninstall its driver, or might that mess something else up?

    Disable TouchPad

In Win7 Fn plus F1 will disable the touch pad, but it will come back on whenever you reboot.

I know this is an old post, but I encountered the dreaded Elan smart pad problem working on a (very) old laptop. My solution was to open the Elan options and disable every possible feature, or turn the sensitivity for it way way down.

    MSconfig.exe

This may be a few years too late and it may also be obvious lol.
but have you tried using the System Configuration menu to disable it on startup?

Start Button > *search* "msconfig" > Startup Tab > *uncheck* ELAN Smart-Pad

I assume you already know to try it, and i don't know if it will work, as i'm trying it for the first time currently.
