    Migrating from AMD mobo to Intel [Windows Server 2008 R2 x64]


    I know that since during a windows installation, certain libraries are installed specifically for certain types of chipsets/cpu's and that an abrupt hardware change can cause failures. I read on an article somewhere that you can migrate windows without hardware errors if you manage to get windows to operate on a politically correct mode similar safe mode to boot up with minimal functionality before installing the appropriate drivers for the new board.

    I want to install my G41 intel mobo from an old am2 socket mobo, both cpu's are 64 bit capable and I was wondering if there would be any difficulties or questions during the migration. Overall I want to avoid a complete OS re-install.

    I have had this procedure work only once perfectly by deleting anything that pertains to the original motherboard in the device manager before the swap like processors which your going from AMD to Intel and chipset drivers or any others you think might be ones to remove or disable or uninstall and then you could try starting in safe mode with networking the first start up and see how it goes but, have a plan for a fresh install just in case the swap does not work correctly and good luck,
