That what computers are made for, the only problem is the hard disk, its life time is measured in hours .
If your server is reading and writing stuff all the time on your disk you maybe should lookup a backup solution (RAID 1)
You want to use a laptop computer as a "hosting server" & leave it on 24/7?
Not a good idea for a laptop.
It will work fine...until the little cooling fan locks up, at 2am....Why not use a older desktop system instead? You could pick one up cheap at a yard sale...
Also, if you're planning on allowing access to your "server" from the Internet -- you really need to check with your ISP to see if this is allowed. I did that a while back, my ISP saw the "server" -- and sent me a nasty email telling me to take it down, convert to a "commercial" account, or have my personal account terminated.
You don't want to have your Internet access cancelled because you're experimenting with a "server".
Id advise in purchasing a quality server ready hard drive or even an SSD, as my CCTV unit i built for work seems to eat hard drives every 4-6months as its on a constant write cycle. only time its off is when theres a power cut
