    device icons

Hello Jerry I got my printer icon changed in Devices and Printers thanks to your advice. Do you know how to change in the window below? The location for the icon is a dll and reshacker won't open it.

This is how it looks here.

    Let's try something else
Right click on Printer Actions and click on create shortcut.
    device icons-1.png

On the shortcut Right click on it and click on properties.
    device icons-2.png

    Click on Change Icon button.
    device icons-3.png

Copy the location and be sure to copy all of it it could be quite long.
    device icons-4.png

Now paste that into your start menu search box when it shows up right click on it and go to Open file location once there in the address bar navigate backwards and see if you can find some other folders to look in that's how I searched for mine let me know if you need more help.

    I tried and mine show up in DDORes.dll also. And there's a 64-bit version too. (System32 & SysWOW64)

The only way those icons would be in a file is if the manufacturer issued a metadata file with the hardware driver(s). Or you made your own.

@Ken, my printer is old and Win 7 has no icon for it so I have made one.

Jerry I followed you directions, but as you can see my printer props page is different than your is. I have a scanner icon there and I found only more scanner icons in the folder.
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Device Stage\Task\{E35BE42D-F742-4D96-A50A-1775FB1A7A42}\print_queue.ico

I finally got reshack to open C:\Windows\system32\DDORes.dll but there are around a 1000+ icons in it.

I think I may have it for you.
In DDORes.dll ( there is only 81 icons in their) try icon #2413 you will need to change in both System32 & SysWOW64
    device icons-icon.png

It must depend on how the drivers are loaded when installing the printer or whether it's a network printer or connected to the computer both my desktop and my laptop that icon is located in my AppData folder.

If you would like me to edit the DDORes.dll for you let me know all I need is the icon. I use Restorator 2007 to edit .dll it's a lot easier but it's not free.

    Icon and System 32 dll.zip SysWOW64 dll.zip

Thanks for the offer Jerry. Here is what the dll looks like in reshacker, and this is just one group of icons. I give you the DDORes.dll from both System32 & SysWOW64. I suspect they are identical, but not sure.
