Intel I7 2700k Questions

I know that Intel has produced produced engineering samples of the new chip. However when is the chip coming out? I can hit 5.2 GHz stable with my I7 2600k but I want more. Call me crazy but I want to hit 5.5-5.7 GHz with the new chip. From what I have been reading this is where this new chip should peek.

OK, you are crazy Beta
Unless the 2700K has some other new features, a gain of a few tenths of GHz won't make any noticeable, see-able difference. But then, I'm not real familiar with Intel CPUs.

The site's sources also mentioned October 24 as the likely launch date for the Core i7-2700K. Meanwhile, the latest rumors say AMD is readying the FX Series for a launch a bit earlier on October 12, with the six-core FX-6100 priced at just $175, while the eight core FX-8120 and FX-8150 would cost around $205 and $245 each.

The engineering samples of the new chip have been overclocked and tested a 5 GHz on air with very low vcore.

"VR-Zone claims the 2700K will be a better overclocker than the 2600K as "Intel is apparently cherry picking the best of the best of its Sandy Bridge cores" for the new processor."

From same source.

I think it's only 0.1GHz (100MHz) gain over the 2600k. I don't even see the reasoning. It looks like the same processor. As you say, unless there's some new features. Or maybe it's a fix to something in 2600k. The 2700k appears to be replacing the 2600k.

I think it is worth the extra $15. I am building a new setup for one of my friends and we have talked about him buying my current chip and I would just go and buy this.

It's another one of those Intel marketing schemes to rain on AMD's parade.
It'll be interesting to see how many people will ditch their 2600k's in favor of the 2700k.
Ebay, look out, I think you're about to be hit with a bunch of 2600k chips.

Most people (myself included) who buy the latest and greatest pre-plan on how to get ride of a old CPU. So you won't see as many as you think on ebay. I have been tempted to go and buy a ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z and pop my current CPU in. Because I plan to upgrade my GPU and ram at the same time. I have everything else except the MB. However my wife would kill me if I did this. She understands why I do what I do with computers but that would be to much.

Sounds like a good idea either way then. And yes you are crazy.

I wasn't expecting Intel to launch any new desktop chips until the 2011 sockets were out!

The idea that they needed to launch a "Bulldozer Killer" is a bit far fetched, they already have a bulldozer killer and it's called the i5. Which I must say I am really disappointed with AMD, well overdue and well outperformed, looks like I'm going to be waiting longer for upgrade time.

True Subbie, it looks like Bulldozer is more bullcrap from what I've read so far. I'm an AMD guy too.
