Getting a new computer, which one?

I am getting a new computer either late this year or early next year.
But wich one?

It does not have to be a laptop, but thats what I'm the most interested in :)
The brand does not need to be Maingear, I am open for tips
I would be happy for any recommendations aswell

AND I dont want to spend more than 16000Kr / 2848$ / 1808 GBP (Pounds)

These are the computers that I am the most interested in:
Maingear Titan 17 (Laptop)
Maingear Shift (Desktop)

This is not my native language, so there might be some typos
Btw: My native language is Norwegian :)

Will you be ordering from a Norwegian dealer?

What are the main tasks you will do with this computer? Gaming? Programming? Video encoding? General web browsing?

You can get a very powerful machine, including monitor and operating system, for $1500 US, so your budget is plenty.

I'd get a desktop unless portability is a major factor. Laptops have their own issues.

Look for something with an Intel 2600K or 2700K processor with that budget.

Get an SSD drive, at least for the operating system.

I'm mainly going to use it for gaming and general web browsing I guess.
It does not have to be a laptop, its just something that would be handy, since for example that I'm traveling each summer.
I don't bother caring where I order it from, since my budget is as high as it is. (or should I?)

Well, I would generally try to get it from someone in my own country unless I built it myself.

Laptops are not the best choice for serious gaming.

But maybe portability is a must for you, in which case get the laptop.

No particular need to get any operating system more expensive than Home Premium. You should go with the 64-bit version and probably 8 GB of RAM. No need to get expensive RAM if you are not going to overclock.

For that budget you could get 2 machines:

Very powerful desktop, for gaming.

Less expensive laptop for portability and general web browsing.

This might sound crazy but if you like maingear, I'm not sure you will enjoy both a maingear desktop and laptop. When you buy 2 things from a single brand - it's natural to discriminate over which one is the better product. So my advice is if you do go with maingear - get the laptop. Then build a custom desktop from scratch.

I recently built my 2nd PC (system see specs) cost me ~$1500 all up to build. To get a similar system built I was going to pay ~$800 more.
It was my first build I found it quite straightforward using quality parts.

A $250 SSD is probably a "needed" extra.

It's hard to know what to recommend because you've not said what you intend to use the computer for (other than NOT GAMING).

I don't know what pricing is like in Norway, but over here that's enough money to buy 5 decent computers, or 2 speedy gaming computers.

On this note, if that is your budget, you could grab great desktop for gaming and so on, and a laptop aswell for when you need to take a computer some where with you.

Sorry for being late posting any answer, I guess i will buy both if I can as that sounds decent :)
