Windows 7 - Frankenputer question

This is a somewhat strange, and probably stupid question, but I shall ask it anyway.

I have a gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l with an Intel core 2 duo e6600 with 4gb RAM. Running Windows 7 ultimate x64.

Having just helped my friend build a brand new machine, I have just had my old abit it7-max2 Pentium 3 returned to me.

My question is this, is there any way that I can run my old motherboard in tandem with my current set up, so that Windows sees my old CPU as another core?

I know its unlikely but thought I'd ask anyway. I am aware of clusters, although I haven't looked into in detail yet as clusters aren't really any good for normal Windows activities.

It is not an easy task to make one computer out of two motherboards and two CPUs. You may need special software to create it. Technically it may be possible but not feasible. I have not heard of it before.

I heard about cluster solutions in data centers, server farms and virtual machines for load sharing but not for home users.

Even if you want to create a cluster how you want to establish communication between the two motherboards? USB, ethernet or wireless will be useless. You may have to connect the buses (Data, Address, Control buses) of each CPU and motherboard to get the real advantage of dual CPUs.

We used to have dual CPU motherboards for more throughput for high end servers. Now it is the era of multiple cores and hyperthreading in personal computing.

You would be better off with a multiple core machine like i5 or i7.

Only asked as while I would dearly love to upgrade, my current financial situation won't allow it.

I understand your situation, as I was in a similar position for a long time earlier. Even I used to get such ideas (to tell you frankly I got the same idea... ).
