Do any Wifi adapters for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit actually work?

I've got a Linksys WUSB300N adapter which Linksys admits through tech support, that it will not work with Win7 64-bit.

So I ordered a Rosewill RNX-N180UBE because it supposedly has Win7 64-bit compatibility, but it doesn't work either.

So I spent a couple of hours on Newegg digging through the feedback of various wifi adapters, and it's starting to look like just about all of them have problems with Win7 64-bit.

Does anyone here have any solid recommendation of one that does? I would be particularly interested in one that works with a Gigabyte motherboard with the realtek chipset.

Failing that you might want to take another look at fixing the original problem. Let us know if we can help

The "original problem" is that these two adapters for an absolute fact do not work in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, with this motherboard.

And it certainly appears that others are having the same issues.

Both of my adapters were virtual plug and play in the same computer running on a Windows XP Pro setup on a different hard drive.

My Belkin usb adapters work perfect as long as you download from site drivers and not off provided cd.

That looks good. I'm going to google that to see if anyone mentions realtek chipset problems, and if not i'll have one on it's way shortly.

the compatibility site is a pain to use, because they'll list something as being compatible but it may not work in your system. my gigabyte motherboard is a perfect example. a lot of people are having problems with realtek chipset boards when they use various wireless adapters.
the realtek list of course if of interest, but you have to figure out which manufacturer is using that particular realtek chip, like the Alfa one listed above.

So long story short, i'm going to try the newer version of that Alfa, the AWUS036NHR.

Hopefully by using a realtek adapter with a realtek motherboard, i'll have good results.

What is on the motherboard shouldn't make any difference. Also if you're not using the onboard NIC then it can be disabled in the bios and then there won't be any compatibility issues between the two.

I was right in the middle of checkout, when it occurred to me that I should check what the vendor lists for OS compatibility. It turns out that they don't specify 64-bit for Windows 7. (they do for XP and Vista)

So now even though the manufacturer may say it is, I can't order until I see that the vendor will back the product if it winds up not working.

So I sent them an email, and i'll have to wait and see what they say.

I wouldn't think the motherboard chipsets should matter either, but I found a lot of people with Gigabyte boards having the same problems. Whether their right or not as far as the whys, is somewhat irrelevant. The boards seem to be a problem. And it's not just Gigabyte boards. On Newegg, I found quite a few posts of people saying that a given card was simply not working with Win7 64-bit.

Oh well, 4 days later and the retailer never answered my email.

So back to square one.
