iaStor0 (Event ID 9) Problem: 5-10 second lockups.

Heya. I've been having this problem for awhile now.

The event viewer registers this event with the event ID 9.
"The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period."

I have updated the Rapid Storage driver (10.6.0.1002)
I have tried turning off the Link State Power Management settings in Power Options > Advanced > PCI Express

Anyone familiar with this issue?
What can I do to figure out whats causing it?

Usually, that's a precursor to a hard disk failing. The device was issued a read or write IRP request, and it did not respond in the timeout period. It's always possible it's a file system filter driver causing it, of course (usually antivirus or CD emulation/burning programs if you have any installed), but I'd suggest backing up any data stored on that disk and scanning it for errors.

Have you checked for a bios update for your motherboard. I had to update my bios to run the latest IRST.

There are. I am using quite an old version currently.
My motherboard is a P8P67 Pro and from what I understand updating your BIOS can be disastrous if done wrong and since I don't know how to do it I didn't want to risk it.

How would I go about updating it and if possible, explain as if your talking to a complete newbie >.<

I don't have an Asus board, but on mine, I download it and put it on a USB drive. In bios I tell it to update and show it the USB drive and it does it itself. Your user Manual will usually tell you several ways, but don't update in windows. That's my opinion, YMMV.
