windows tries to format every usb drive and some devices dont connect Using the computer in my signature when I plug in any USB drive it says it needs to be formatted. Additionally, my sony handycam will no longer be detected and my iPhone and iPad also take forever to be detected if they detect at all.
I ran sfc /scannow and it didnt seem to do anything. I also searched and came up with nothing to help.

Hi there
looks like the USB driver has got hosed up -- try in the device manager uninstalling it and re-install again (or simply boot after uninstalling and let Windows "Find new hardware" and install it automatically).
(ensure your usb stick is fine in another computer also --these can and do go defective sometimes).
cheers

jimbo Hey Jimbo thanks for the quick reply. Here is a screenshot of my device manager. Which one should I uninstall? All of them? | My System Specs | | OS 7600x64 ultimate, not SP1 CPU i7 930 Motherboard Gigabye X58A-ud5 Memory 12gb ddr3 1600 triple channel Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card Radeon 5850 1gb OC edition Sound Card Asus Xonar Essence STX Monitor(s) Displays Acer 24'', Dell 23'' display port Screen Resolution 1920x1200, 1920x1080 Keyboard logitech 2.4ghz wireless wave something Mouse logitech laser wireless mouse. Hi there
I'd start with the USB composite device and the USB mass storage device. also the 3 generic hub ones.
Disconnect any usb devices on the system first.
then if that doesn't cure the problem uninstall the ICH10 drivers -- but only do that as a last resort because these might have to be added again manually.
Cheers

I wonder what the USB Virtualization driver is? Never seen that before on any system.
I agree with jimbo's advice, but if even removing the ICH10 drivers doesn't solve the problem, I'd try removing the virtualization driver as a last resort. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom-built OS Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, overclocked to 2.7GHz Motherboard Asus PL5D2 Memory 3GB DDR2-667 (2x1GB + 2x512MB in dual-channel config) Graphics Card nVidia GeForce 9800 GT Sound Card on-board Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays LG W2261 Screen Resolution 1920x1200 (DVI) Keyboard Standard Mouse Microsoft wireless optical mouse PSU Antec TruePower 2.0 Case Cooler Master Centurion Cooling various fans Hard Drives OCZ SSD Vertex Plus 60GB SATA (Firmware 3.55), 64MB cache

I'm only guessing but I have the USB Virtualization driver and the only place I can think it came from would be Microsofts Virtual PC when I attached a USB drive to the Virtual PC and to strengthen that thought the driver details list the file vpcusb.sys | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz (3.77GHz OC) Motherboard Asus P5Q-E Memory Corsair 4GB DDR2 (4x1GB CM2X1024-6400C4) Graphics Card Palit GeForce GTS 250 (1024MB) Sound Card On Board (ADI AD2000B 8ch HD) Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 32in LCD TV Screen Resolution 1360x768 Keyboard Logitech MX5000 Laser (Combo) Mouse Logitech MX5000 Laser (Combo) PSU 550W Antec Neo HE 550 Case Antec P180 Cooling Xigmatex Red Scorpion CPU Cooler. 3x120mm Fans Hard Drives 2 x 1TB Samsung 103SJ (Raid0)
