Okay, in the disk list, it shows up as disk 1, says no media, but says 0 gb for both size and free, which obviously isn't right. Should I proceed?

Are you sure that it is connected right? You can try, but I don't think it will work. When you connect it, can you hear or feel it begin to spin? What brand of disk is it?

Yeah it's connected, don't hear any sort of spinning though. Can't remember what kind of disk, it comes from an Acer Aspire One netbook though.

It has it's own power right? It is begining to sound like the disk is not functioning.

If the disk is broken, no. In disk management, when you right click the disk can you select delete partition?

If the disk won't spin up, there is nothing you can do. Are you sure that the enclosure works?
