Am also now looking at this possible mobo/cpu combo.
    Newegg.com - MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
    Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X6 1075T Thuban 3.0GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT75TFBGRBOX

it's also significantly less expensive. Maybe enough so for me to sneak a ssd into the order.

For $5 more you can get Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT90ZFBGRBOX the BE CPUs have an unlocked multiplier if you want to overclock. I had a MSI graphics card one, need support, and MSI told me much useful info was in their forums by knowledgeable users.

yeah amd/budget version comes out like this.

now keep in mind with that setup I have the money left over for either a decent ssd or even a fair model case.
I know it's not quite as much kick as the i7.
I'm upgrading from a first gen core duo if you check my specs though, so either is going to be noticeable.
I'm just trying to do the best I can on the set amount of funds I've allotted myself for this.

I would go with whatever you need to do to allow a SSD in the mix, I think essenbe would agree.

Looks like a real nice mess of parts.
The SSD shows some good 4K IOPS. The Sequential read/write stuff is to impress buyers and have little to do with how you use a PC.

Looking good. I have a few alternatives that may be worth some cosideration if you are interested.

    SSD:
It may be worth considering one of these SSDs as well:
    128GB Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
    or
    64GB Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Been hearing lots of good stuff about them.

    CPU:
Also, if you would rather build Intel, remember the 2500k.
Its $100 cheaper than the 2600K and only lacks Hyperthreading, and 2MB of Cache.
From everything Ive seen, theres approx. a 10% difference in performance.

    PSU:
I was looking around new egg for a PSU myself, and stumbled upon this:
    Newegg.com - SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
The x750 was on sale, for the same price, but it ended this morning.

Not that the Corsair is a bad choice, but at this price point that Seasonic might possibly be a better choice between the two, given its Gold rated as well as modular.
Depends on your needs and expectations I suppose.

Just some things to consider before you make a final decision. :)

You certainly have many good options available for a good build.

Yeah I'll have a little time to fine tune the order.
Instead of ordering right away I'm going to wait until end of November and catch holiday sales and have a bit more to spend.

...unless I just cave because I get sick of having this older computer as my primary right now.
