low disk space on D Recovery drive.

have a Dell xpsm1330 laptop running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. i keep getting a message saying low disk space on D recovery drive (3.73 mb left on 10G). i think what has happened when i upgraded from vista to windows 7 all the program files/data
from both systems went to the D recovery drive therefore it is full. what is the best option to clear the D drive and not loose the data/program files? which will solve the disk low space message. in doing so do would i still need the Vista data/program files?
thanks.

I don't see why anything from a previous installation would end up on a D drive.

Do you know if you did a "clean install" or an "upgrade" when you moved from Vista to Windows 7?

Can you investigate the D drive in Windows Explorer? What appears to be on it?

Can you post a screen shot of your Disk Management, showing all drives and partitions?

The Dell recovery partition holds the image required to recover your system to factory state and should not have anything added to it.

When you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 the recovery partition should have been left untouched.

A clean install will have wiped your hard drive, including the Dell recovery partition.

Have you created a set of Dell recovery discs so that you can at least get your computer back to its factory state if something goes drastically wrong?

@ EarlGray

It may be that your clean install or Vista/Windows 7 upgrade installed itself in the Recovery partition which is generally marked active in Dells. Dell seem place the "system reserved" boot in recovery.

A screenshot from Disk management would help.
and
Is the upgrade a standard retail upgrade?
If so then an option is to consider a complete Windows 7 clean install.
