Is it an USB drive? Is it USB 2.0 or 3.0? What is the drive formatted as?

What happens when you connect it to another system? Nothing at all, or some kind of error?

Its USB 2.0 HDD. I don't remember how it was formatted but whenever I connect it to another pc, it asks me to format it before it can be opened. Obviously I can't format it otherwise I'll lose all my data on it.

In disk management of the windows7 OS it should tell you what it is formatted as. For windows 7 it should be NTFS. As far as the other OS's not reading it, it depends on what OS's they are. If they are using a differnt formatting, they may not be able to read it, or want it formatted to their style. What OS's are the ones that don't recognize it?
