Asus p5gd2 deluxe mb and windows 7

I am trying to run windows 7 on my p5gd2 deluxe mb. Windows 7 will not recognize my optical drives. I was able to load it via USB and it ran fine but still did not show my optical drives. I have seen others on line say they are running windows 7 with this mb but I can't get my optical drives to show up. I contacted asus and they said the board my not be compatiable with windows 7 because of the age but how are others running it. I am currently running windows vista 32 bit with no problems. Any help would be appreciated, I have the latest bios and all drivers for the optical drives are up to date.

    Thanks

    IDE or Sata?

    Is your rom deck IDE?
Do you have more than one device attached to the primary IDE.

    Manual

In your manual about page 2/24 the primary IDE is discussed. I would suggest reading it before going any further.

If you can't find your manual here is a link.

Do you think I should run a raid setup? I am going to replace the current IDE hard drive with a serial ata drive. Maybe running a different config might allow win 7 to see them?

    One Step at a time

If it was me I would get the current problem with the Optical drives settled and then move on to raid if that is what I wanted.

If I understand what you have done is loaded Win 7 and it boots but the Rom decks are not available in win explorer. No changes of cabling or anything such as that.

If the above statement is correct. What don't you boot and hit the "del" key and enter the bios. On the main screen there should be a listing the IDE devices. If your rom decs are not listed that means the bios did not detect them. If they are not detected,
go to the "advanced" tab and check the onboard devices config. Look for "ITE8212F Controller" and make sure it is set to IDE.

I am running vista 32 bit now because I could not get win 7 to work but my hd just failed so I was going to switch to serial ata. I don't see anyone else having problems with cd drives so it must work I just don't know the right config. I tried the suggestion earlier with no success it was set to IDE

If idid the hd via serial ata could I hook the cd drives on the same cable through the primary IDE? Win 7 saw the hard drive just not the DVD drives

    More Questions

    You are running Vista 32?
Was that the original OS before you started loading stuff?
Did the optical drives work prior to you loading a new OS?

I don't think Win will see the drives until you get the bios to see them.
