    Xbox Controller.

    NON 360.

Is there a way to get Old Xbox controllers (the better ones imho)
to work with windows 7 ?
Windows 7 does not seem to be smart enough to understand the XP driver.
It will not pick up my controller, even after the drivers appear to install.

    Its this simple.
Windows 7 is great, in many ways.
Ive had win7 installed for less than 24 hours. and im already wasteing time just trying to teach win7 to understand xp...

I would love to buy win7.
But I will not, if its going to be plauged by the same thing vista was.

    incompatability.

Yes yes, i understand that its a new system.
But im not going to buy it, if its going to require 2 years to catch up.

especially considering that the benchmarks are basically tied in too many catagories. (shaving 30 seconds off my load shutdown consist of about 3 minutes out of 24 hours).

I will try and research this but in no way are XP drivers expected to work on 7. Those drivers are designed for XP, not XP and above. Make sure your using a driver for Windows 7 x64...if none is available from Microsoft than you may have to wait until they mnake one

I'm just screwing my time with the same problem

    I tried almost everything.
    XBCD
    driver for a Xbox-Controller-to-PC-converter
    nothing works.

I have a Logitech Xbox Controller and changed the "ending" into a real USB plug.
And it worked fine with XP. XP found the device and recognized that it is a controller. easy and understandable.

Win7 finds the device ,too. And it also says :"Look ! It is from Logitech !"
    But i can't use it as a controller. I tried :
-to use the Xbox 360 driver for my controller -> No success
-to use a different Logitech Game controller driver -> No success
-to use XBCD (with DSEO) -> No success
-to use every ****in driver -> No ****IN success !

    can anybody help me ?!
    I'm going nuts !

    off topic :
if you use the USB plug from a real xbox 360 controller and change it with the one I used for the org. xbox controller , will the xbox360 recognize it as a xbox360 controller ?

    sadly.
I will probably drop win7 for xp

simply because win7 isnt smart enough to recognize a microsoft xbox (non 360) controller.

If you read up, the new 360 controllers "dpad" is inferior. especially when it comes to precision. the non360 controller did not suffer from this.
(yes i know it has been said that you can manually sand off a lip around the dpad,
but im not going to blow 30 bucks on a controller that has to be sawed up in order to compete with the current controller that i have
    FROM THE SAME COMPANY.
    that should work also.

Ah well, it will save me 200 bucks or what ever it was for win7 anyhow.
Im sure ill get win7, once it catches up

don't expect windows 7 to 'catch up' with your old hardware.

upgrade or die. it's a tough world out there, but that's how it works.

    don't use XP robcardiv !
    i got it !

You need the program " Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider ".

    • Run it with admin privileges and enable test mode.

    • reboot

    • then install the driver for a xbox2pc converter. (Tiger Game XBox Controller / search google for super joy box 9 and chose the first link )

    • open DSEO , enable test mode and reboot again

    • now plug in your controller

    • windows will detect it, but wont be able to install the right driver. the device will have an exclamation mark.

    • double click on the device -> chose tab Hardware -> select the correct hardware and double click -> chose tab Driver -> Let me pick -> show me a list of all ... -> all devices -> TIGER GAME XBOX CONTROLLER ! (the steps from "pick driver" etc. can have a little different name, but they are the same. )
if you can't see the driver, reboot normally and then enable test mode again and reboot.

Yeah, it may takes long, but after that win7 will always see your controller and it will work fine !

Dude just registered to this forum to say,

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

BenjaminCarmine your reply helped and worked perfect for me!

For those who might be stuck in his instructions, from where i was when he says to double click it and goto hard ware tab, an alternative is to goto device manager, goto the 'unknown device'. right click and choose to install drivers. from there choose the options that say you want to search the drivers, you already have it, and you want to 'show all devices' . From there let it load and then go down to Tiger box. install. and play. :)

    Thanks heaps!

OH don't forget to turn off test mode.

EDIT: BTW< how do you get analog working

I don't know if you already solved it but go to your controller properties and click on controller mode and change it to analog or flight. Worked like a charm here.
