How to fix stuttering (aka Hiccups or Lag) in Windows 7 [Guide]

Okay, I'll try to save you guys some time here and make this as short and painless as possible.

If you're reading this page you should have probably experienced some kind of stuttering (aka Lag or Hiccups), mostly when typing or moving windows across your desktop and even brief mouse lockups, usually, it doesn't last more than a second or so. But it's extremely annoying and irritating and these stutters are completely random, in other others there is no way to tell when they will happen, it just does.

Note: Please, be aware that I am not saying that this is your problem, it could certainty be just a memory problem, if you think that might be it and you have a faulty memory stick, run MEMTEST for at least 12 hours, if you don't get any errors whatsoever then you should keep reading.

What type of system does this fix apply to?

There isn't a specific type of system, as long as you have a Crucial C300 SSD installed on your system this fix should work for you.

What will you need?
Nothing really, besides some basic knowledge and a blank CD.

What's the cause of this issue then?
The 006 firmware causes the issue.

Okay, so how do I fix it, this thing is pissing me off already?
Well, keep reading and fallow the steps bellow:

Step 1:

Check what is the firmware version of your C300.

1.1 Click 'Start', right click on 'Computer' then click on 'Manage'.
1.2 Select 'Device Manger', then 'Disk drives', right click on your C300, then 'Properties'.
1.3 Go to the 'Details' tab and select 'Hardware Ids' in the drop-down field.
1.4 You should get something like this:

Quote:
IDE\DiskC300-CTFDDAC064MAG______________________0006____
IDE\C300-CTFDDAC064MAG______________________0006____
IDE\DiskC300-CTFDDAC064MAG______________________
C300-CTFDDAC064MAG______________________0006____
GenDisk
Is so then you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2:
Go to the Crucial website and Download the 007 firmware and update your C300.
Crucial.com Product Downloads - Firmware Updates
If you are not sure how to do this, there is a detailed guide on the Crucial website that you can fallow, you can also click on the link bellow, it will you get there: http://www.crucial.com/firmware/0007...boot_04-11.pdf
That's it, after that you should no longer get any more stutters.

WARNING: As with all firmware updates, it is strongly recommended that you backup or make copies of all important files before performing this update. This firmware update process is done entirely at your own risk. If performed correctly, there will be no loss of system or user data on the drive. However, if the firmware process is interrupted for any reason, your solid-state drive may not function properly.
