There is a little hole in the front to the side of the drawer. Carefully insert a paper clip to pop the drawer open. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion dv-7 1005 Tx OS WCP ONLY CPU 2@2.4 Memory 4 gigs Graphics Card Nvidia 9600M Sound Card HD built-in Monitor(s) Displays 17" Wxga Screen Resolution 1440x900 Cooling none Internet Speed 45Mb down 5Mb up |

The door motor gets week and dust accumulates in the track. They're not worth trying to fix. I would start looking for a replacement DVD drive. A Sony or Lite-On drive can be had for under $20. I've always relied on Sony but both are pretty good drives. You don't have the Model Number in your system specs so we don't know if it's IDE or SATA.
Banging on your computer won't fix anything. You can damage components or loosen cards. Replace the drive and enjoy. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built 2/11/2011 OS Windows 7 Pro-x64 CPU i7-2600 3.4GHz - 3.8GHz Turbo Motherboard Intel DH67BL-B3 Memory 8Gb - 2x4GB, Muskin 991770 PC3-1333 Graphics Card Integrated Intel HD 2000 Sound Card Integrated Intel 10.1 HD, RealTek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays Asus LCD VH222H, Haier HL24XSL2a Screen Resolution 1920x1080, 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech EX100 Wireless Mouse Logitech EX100 Wireless PSU Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold Modular Case Rosewill Defender Cooling Stock CPU, Four 120mm case fans, PCH fan added Hard Drives Crucial C300-128Gb,

Au Contrary!
This problem is actually one of those rare hardware problems that can be often fixed cheaply and easily!
See Here, second to the last post with photos: [Solved] Lite-On DVD writer tray will only eject when a disc is in tray - DVD-CD-Writers - Storage
I've tried this with 3 drives now, various brands, and it works! I don't even use duct tape, just some tissue paper. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DESKTOP - Home Built - March 2009 OS Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium SP1 CPU i7-920 Motherboard Asus P6T - Bios 1408 Memory Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 - 6GB Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX260+ - Driver 296.10 Sound Card On board Realtek ACL1200 Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2007FP Screen Resolution 1280 x 960 Keyboard MS KC-0405 Mouse Intellimouse 5-button PSU Corsair CMPSU-750TX - 750 watt Case Lian Li PC-K10B Cooling Standard, 3 120mm case fans Hard Drives #1- Western Digital WD6401AALS Sata Black

Well, there you go. I've never had a problem with Sonys.
Or maybe I've never owned one long enough to have a problem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built 2/11/2011 OS Windows 7 Pro-x64 CPU i7-2600 3.4GHz - 3.8GHz Turbo Motherboard Intel DH67BL-B3 Memory 8Gb - 2x4GB, Muskin 991770 PC3-1333 Graphics Card Integrated Intel HD 2000 Sound Card Integrated Intel 10.1 HD, RealTek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays Asus LCD VH222H, Haier HL24XSL2a Screen Resolution 1920x1080, 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech EX100 Wireless Mouse Logitech EX100 Wireless PSU Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold Modular Case Rosewill Defender Cooling Stock CPU, Four 120mm case fans, PCH fan added Hard Drives Crucial C300-128Gb,

For the price of dvd drives, it'd cost more in time to fix than to just buy a new one and have an updated drive on top of it... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom build OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 CPU i7 950 4ghz Motherboard EVGA x58 FTW3 Memory 6GB G.Skill pc12800 Graphics Card EVGA GTX 580 SC Sound Card Xfi Titanium Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1200 PSU Thermaltake 850 Case Mountain Mods U2-UFO Horizon Cooling Custom watercooling Hard Drives Vertex 3 SSD 120Gb x2 RAID 0
