HP 7310 Ethernet - Same Printer, Same Problem in 2 W7 PCs

HP 7310 Ethernet Printer, new Windows 7 OS in two different PCs, one x86 and one x64. Printer prints fine with generic Windows 7 drivers, but can't access Scanner functions of All-in-One, so trying to install current HP Windows 7 software pkg (AIO_CDB_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe). No HP printer software has ever been installed on either of there two PCs before. Installer does exactly as described previously in this thread. It begins, and very early in the script, as "applying updates" flashes on screen, it just stops... Before installing I disabled Firewall and antivirus. HP Vista pkg will not install, so not an alternative.

On a third PC running XP, the HP XP software bundle installs correctly and that PC can access the scanner functionality using HP Director flawlessly. So not a network issue. I think the HP Windows 7 software is simply flawed, and since the printer is older, not a concern for HP. Is ther any other way to get scanner functionalituy short of the HP bundle I cannot install? Frustrating.
Thanks!

Hello Lard. Welcome to the forum.

The first thing that comes to mind is: are you installing the correct driver package?
You need the Windows 7 32 bit package if you are running the 32 bit version of Windows.
There are 2 driver options for the 7310 series. One is the 7310 and the other is the 7310xi. Are you installing the right package for your printer?

The second thing is I noticed on that website that there is a FAQ about driver install failures on systems running on AMD processors. Does this apply to you? (This is why it helps to fill in your 'My System Specs' for this forum).

Do you get any error messages, or does it just stop cold?

Thanks for the comeback post TVeblen. The software .exe from HP is the same download for both 32 and 64 bit OS. I listed the file name in my first post. I have the 7310, not the 7310xi, so yes, it's the correct software. One PC is Intel, the other is AMD, both fail in the same way. There are no error msgs, the iinstall window simply closes. Nothing to uninstall afterwards.

Oh well, so much for easy solutions!

Probably another stupid question, but are you installing the software with the printer disconnected? Most times they want you to install the software and only connect the printer when prompted.

The other thing that comes to mind is that the download is no good (corrupted file). It happens, and would explain why the Windows 7 package does not install on multiple computers. You may need to notify HP (ugh!) about the potential issue and see if you can get a clean download.

Finally, can you search inside of the download folder to possibly find the actual driver files (are there any folders installed on the hard disk from the attempted install)?

Good questions. I did not disconnect the printer from the Ethernet network, but I will try that. However, the install in the XP PC worked fine with the printer in the network. I downloaded the .exe separately on each PC, so if the file is corrupted, it is corrupted on HP's servers. The install script never gets to the step where it begins to install anything. I do not have the patience to try to get past HP tier one tech support... I am hoping someone can tell me of some other software that may allow me to use the scanning function of the All-in-One. I tried Windows FAX and Scan, but without the Scanner drivers, it cannot "see" the scanner. Sigh

Update: Install still failed in exactly the same way with the network printer disconnected

You will want to be doing a System Restore to a point before you first tried to install the printer before you try anything new. I usually create a Restore Point before I install anything.

But another thing you could try (with a clean slate) is to install the package as an administrator. Just right click on the exe file and choose Run As Administrator.
