Windows 7 - Did Sleep Mode kill my Monitor? |

Did Sleep Mode kill my Monitor? I recently formatted my HD and reinstalled everything. One thing I usually do that I forgot to was to turn off Sleep Mode. When I woke up the next morning my monitor was off. I turned on the power and the power light flickered then turned off. I've tried it on different outlets and even different PCs and it doesn't work. I'm using a secondary monitor from a Dell (I use HP) and it works fine but it's really small compared to my other one. I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with Sleep Mode killing their monitors, or if it was just my monitor's time.

lol no, sleep mode cannot 'kill' your monitor. But your monitor can 'die'. Plug it in to another source (like a computer) and see if it still works. Make sure the power cord is secure and the monitor-to-source cord (hdmi, dvi, etc) is secure all on both ends.
Is it plugged in to the motherboard or a graphics card?
Did you have a recent spike in power (perhaps a power outage)? Is your monitor and computer protected by a working surge protector?
You have a smaller monitor that works you said. do they both connect to your computer with the same cord? have you tried changing cords (all cords)? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built PC (In French it is called "PC de moi") OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel Core i7-3820 CPU OC @ 3.80GHz Motherboard Gigabyte G1.Assassin2 Memory 8.00GB (2GBx4) DDR3 1866MHz Graphics Card Nvidia-Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB SLI-soon 680 Sound Card On board Creative SB X-Fi Monitor(s) Displays acer 24" H243H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 Mouse Tek Republic Wired Laser 3600 dpi Gaming Mouse PSU Silent Pro 1000w gold 80+ Case Azza Hurrican 2000 Cooling Liquid CPU cooler & fan Hard Drives 120GB OCZ Vertex III SSD,

I have tried the monitor on different outlets, using different PCs, and different cords. The Monitor's power light will flicker on for a second then turn back off. The smaller monitor works fine using the same power cord.
Both my Monitor and PC are using a surge protector | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP p6270z OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X4 620 Motherboard Foxconn ALOE (CPU 1) Memory 4.00GB Dual Channel DDR3 @ 666Mhz (9-9-9-24) Graphics Card HD Radeon 4200 (Integrated) Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP 2311 (1920x1080) @ 60Hz Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Hard Drives 488GB Seagate ST3500418AS SCSI Disk Device (RAID) |

Sleep mode really doesn't do anything to the monitor, it blanks out because the video card output is shut off. I would have to say that it was merely coincidence that your monitor failed during that period.

Sounds like the internal power transformer is at fault, which generally means replacing the monitor as it's "not user serviceable" and difficult to find parts for. Monitor power supplies are not as clever as computer power supplies and I have seen a few go where computers have survived. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz (@3.0Ghz) Motherboard Asus P5QD Turbo Memory Kingston HyperX 2x1GB DDR2 1066Mhz Graphics Card Asus/Nvidia 9500GT 1GB Sound Card On-Board HD Monitor(s) Displays 22" Widescreen TFT Screen Resolution 1920x1080 PSU 650w Case ATX with Mesh Detail no window (yet) Cooling 140mm front, 120mm Rear, 80mm Chipset + stock CPU and GPU Hard Drives 2x 320GB Seagate SATAII RAID 0 Internet Speed 12Mbps Other Info BT Home Hub 2.0B Unlocked to other ISP and VOIP |

yep, sounds like your monitor is caput (especially since you can't use it on any computer) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built PC (In French it is called "PC de moi") OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel Core i7-3820 CPU OC @ 3.80GHz Motherboard Gigabyte G1.Assassin2 Memory 8.00GB (2GBx4) DDR3 1866MHz Graphics Card Nvidia-Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB SLI-soon 680 Sound Card On board Creative SB X-Fi Monitor(s) Displays acer 24" H243H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 Mouse Tek Republic Wired Laser 3600 dpi Gaming Mouse PSU Silent Pro 1000w gold 80+ Case Azza Hurrican 2000 Cooling Liquid CPU cooler & fan Hard Drives 120GB OCZ Vertex III SSD,
