Personally, i don't believe the i7 will run games any better than the i5. I'm not aware of any game that will max out a 4 core. The most important thing is the GPU you install. And the i7 is basically the sme as the i5 with hyperthreading.

I don't know what particular i7 processor you chose, but gaming is dependent on graphics at least as much as the CPU, so you would have to be sure about the graphics card you choose as well. I know very little about gaming and nothing about Minecraft.

If you have chosen a particular graphics card/CPU combination, make a post in the gaming section about it to see if it will handle Minecraft.

So if I kept the XPS8300 with i5 and upgraded the GFX Card can I upgrade to this processor in the future?

as long as its a socket 1155 then yeah.

When it comes to i7 processors (i guess what youd plan to upgrade too) they come in different varients 1155, 1156, 1366 and the new 2011, sooo youd need to make sure you get a 1155 version.

The socket for any given CPU should be stated in its basic specifications.

Here is a bunch of socket 1155 Intel processors. Most are i-3 or i-5. The 2600 and 2700 are i-7.

You might not want to upgrade the processor at all, depending on which one you buy and what you do with the PC.

We can't help you with the config because you have not posted a specification list for the Dell you have in mind.
